Rural daytrip

Arrive at Kazusa Ichinomiya Station

Visit a local 1000 year old shrine
Learn about the Ecological significance of shrines/temples in Japan. Followed by an optional barefoot stone walk to ground.

Farm Experience.
Visit one of Ayako san’s vegetable farms and get your hands dirty planting, harvesting, or building.* Learn about traditional Japanese No-till natural farming methods, and the microbial connections between the forest and the fields.

Lunch
at a traditional Japanese farm house. Ayako san welcomes us into her cozy kominka, which was recently renovated by a world-renowned Miya Daiku level carpenter (less than 300 left in Japan). Learn about the connection between a Japanese garden, the housse, and the surrounding ecology. We’ll prepare lunch together, which will be a mix of seasonal vegetables, fermented foods, and sometimes wild boar meat.*

Ichinomiya, Chiba
Getting here
You can come via express train, local train, or car.
You can input Kazusa-Ichinomiya Station into Google Maps to plan your trip.
We recommend you take the express train leaving from Tokyo station at 9:00am and arriving at 10:03am.
Local trains are also available, but keep in mind, they don't run as often as in the city.
Southern Chiba is beautiful (Katsuura, Kamogawa etc.) but generally it is best to have a car if you want to explore around the area.

90 minutes
Keiyo or Sobu line rapid. Slightly cheaper than the express.

Shinagawa via the Aqua Line. Fastest route from West Tokyo.
